We had a great time in Kona. The property is very nice with a great location. The main detractor is that it is not kid friendly at all! I would not stay here again with kids. I mentioned to the manager that if the property wants to have so many rules regarding children they should be a totally adults only resort. For example, the sign at the pool says, "No toys of any type allowed, absolutely no games of any type such as Marco Polo" This is absolutely ridiculous! I from now on will ask for the pool rules. The management compnay knew we had kids, but did not mention these rules to us at all.
I have complained to the association mangement company Certified Management numerous times about the management on site. The on-site management is the non kid friendly factor. We hope you will come back to our company and stay in another location perhaps. As a repeat customer you are automatically entitled to a 10% discount. Thanks for the honest review. We agree.
Very well furnished condo. Nice kitchen, well equipped. Great view of ocean and pool. Will sleep family of 6 comfortably. Would definitely stay again.
the location is great. close and safe enough to walk to town, but far enough away to be quiet. Would rent again.
our vacation was for our son's "Dream Come True". He is cancer patient. The property was fantastic inside and out! We would stay here again and have friends coming next year and will give them the name of the place as well. We used the grill area twice and loved it! The pool hours could go to 10:00PM...
It's an older unit, but everything was up to par. We were a little irritated with housekeeping for not leaving us any toilet paper when we arrived, but everything was clean and well kept. The manager of the complex locked the gate to the hot tub at 8:45 at least two of the nights during our stay which we found ridiculous. This is a good rental if you want quiet, but would not be a good spot for friends to rent more than one unit as the complex manager seems to be against any sort of noise.
Only negative was the stairs. Third floor without an elevator
We had a very good time at our condo. The kitchen was well equipt which we liked. There were plenty of towels for everyone. The washer and dryer ran great. Our only negative was the loft bed could have been a king instead of a queen. And the tsanumi would not have come a messed up our last night at the condo. We phoned the propety managers and asked them to call us when we could get back in but they never called. We finally called them and they said "oh you can come back now". By then the cleaning staff had already gone in and cleaned it out. We were embarressed to have left it in such a mess but we were told to leave NOW. So we did. Packed everything in 30 minutes and left. It was frustrating to come back med afternoon and see that we could have come back earlier and sorted out the condo better then we left it. Other then that we had a great stay at Kona Makai and will try to use it again in the future.
The condo was well maintained and the property managers were extremely responsive to any and all questions. Two minor points: A safe for jewelry and beach chairs for guests would be great.
Very lovely condo, but the towels smelled like mildew. I would suggest occasionally washing them all, especially if the unit has not been rented out in awhile.
This was a beautiful location and well stocked kitchen. We missed having beach chairs and a cooler. This is first condo that we've stayed in that didn't have use of those key things for a trip to the beach.
We enjoyed this condo--close to the ocean and to downtown. One can snorkel off the rocks. The kitchen was very well equipped, which we appreciated.
My family of five enjoyed our stay at this condo. It is well maintained, fully outfitted kitchen. Our only complaint was that the twin beds were VERY soft and not very comfortable. Everything else was great!
We had a great time and really enjoyed the property and surroundings. We would however, have changed our plans had we known about the pool renovations earlier. We rented a car to tour the island at the beginning of the week and wanted to relax and enjoy the pool and surroundings the last two days. Of course the jack hammers and dust were not very capatible with reading a book on the lanai or around the pool. We do realize maintenance is necessary but a warning ahead of time would help for rearranging plans. A very nice place and very convenient to Kona shopping and markets. I'm sure the manager was probably helpful but we did not actually meet him.
Overall a very nice property. We did not run the A/C even though it was hot outside, because there are plenty of fans and screens for all the doors/windows to allow good air circulation. Great views! The distance to the shops in Kona is within a 2 mile walk.
It was our first trip to the Big Island and we were so impressed with how "non-touristy" the island was. We enjoyed the large variation of weather but when we got to Kona and stayed at the Kona Makai, we felt that we really were in heaven. Listening to the ocean at night was wonderful, people were all nice and the town was just minutes away. The only thing that would have made the stay better would have to be an elevator at the Kona Makai, being disabled made it difficult to walk up the 3 flights of stairs but that was a minor thing. I would go again and plan on doing it soon.
I'm hesitant to review this wonderful condo as I'm selfish and don't want too many people knowing about it. I want it to be my secret.
Wonderful location, very close to the Seaside Village area. We loved the laid back atmosphere in the complex.....we thought we were the only ones there. Very spacious condo, with room for several people. Probably too big for just the two of us, but we enjoyed the extra room. Thank you for allowing us to stay here.
better ac. towels smelled when we got there.
