Hale Kona Kai 207

Guest Rating:

Vacation rental condominium. Sleeps 4, 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom. No pets allowed.

Kailua Kona, HI 96740 United States

This beautiful one bedroom, one bath air conditioned ocean front condo offers a feel of being miles away….. with no traffic noise, but is just a very short walk from the down town Kailua Kona area. Relax on the Lanai with an exquisite cup of local Kona coffee while taking in the spectacular ocean views or enjoy watching whales during the season or dolphins all year around.

The complex has an elevator, central air-conditioning as well as several ceiling fans throughout the condo. Hale Kona's friendly, comfortable and peaceful ambiance offers a wonderful alternative to the fast-paced, expensive resorts and lets you experience the Aloha Spirit of the islands. The complex is located ½ mile from a white sandy beach.

The oceanfront, heated salt water pool is a great place to relax and meet new friends. There is a BBQ area to prepare that wonderful stay at home meal.

Wake up every day hearing the waves just outside your bedroom window.

The downtown Kailua-Kona, just a short walk away offers easy access to shopping, businesses, waterfront restaurants and hotels. Watch the people and the cruise ships come and go from the Kailua Pier. Visit the famous Farmer's Market. Enjoy a shave ice or a cup of Kona coffee, have a light snack or a gourmet meal, buy an inexpensive souvenir or a piece of fine art, book an activity, go for a swim or hang out on the many beautiful beaches.

But the town of Kailua also "hides" some very important Hawaii Island historic spots. Both the Hulihee Palace and the Ahuena Heiau are located on Alii Drive. King Kamehameha I spent his last years living near the current site of the King Kamehameha's Kona Beach Hotel. The Ahuena Heiau, located on the grounds of the hotel, is a reconstructed temple rebuilt by Kamehameha himself and is on the register of National Historic Landmarks.

The Kailua Bay pier is a short 10-minute walk, from which most of the boat excursions on the Big Island's west coast depart (snorkel, whale watch, dinner cruise). The pier is the starting and finishing point of the Ironman World Championship (October) and a great place to watch the sunset.

Up the coast is a busy marina with Hawaii's best scuba diving, big-game fishing, kayaking, dolphin and whale watching and other ocean activities. This unit is conveniently located, and a great home base to explore the many wonders of the Big Island including Volcano National Park, Mauna Kea Observatory, coffee and macadamia nut farms, artist communities, and more!

Stayed at Hale Kona Kai #207 in January 2016. The condo is situated directly facing the ocean with a unobstructed view. The unit is looking very worn and tired, and could use a deep cleaning.

I travel to Kona about 3 times per year, but this was the first time I have stayed at this location. Hale Kona Kai is really close to restaurants with a short walk. The unit overlooks the pool and also the ocean. The unit had all basics I needed. Not all Kona condo's have elevators or A/C, but this complex had both. I thought the unit was priced just a bit on the high side for the size, and could use some updating but I would stay here again and would recommend it to others.

The location was awesome, but the condo really needs updating. It was clean, and met our needs, but friends stayed in another unit that was much nicer, and for a lesser price.

We spent 10 days here and the location really can't be beat. The crashing waves below the lanai, whale and dolphin watching while we had our morning coffee, and walking distance to everything in downtown Kona without the noise that accompanies it. The lanai is directly over the pool and adjacent to the condo office, so you do hear people talking, etc...but did I mention the sound of the waves?! The condo itself is comfortable, although pretty basic. We would have liked an additional set of towels, and there were also no beach towels. We expected to buy some things for the condo (and we brought a lot of stuff in our suitcases), but the kitchen was missing some REALLY basic items like plastic wrap or tupperware, salt and pepper shakers, potholders, etc. The bathroom has a new granite top on the vanity, but everything else is starting to show its age a little. We did appreciate that there were hooks everywhere – even in the shower! Perfect for wet bathing suits. A few nights into our stay we noticed a water leak from one of the AC vents. I emailed management and they were on it first thing the next morning (it was not an emergency). The property maintenance person, Ansley, was apologetic, quickly diagnosed the issue (it was in the unit above us), and let us get back to our vacation. We were very impressed with the staff at this condo and the management company. Overall, we loved the location, but this particular condo is pricey for what it is – but we booked late, so that’s our own fault! Next time we’ll book earlier and probably get an updated corner unit on an upper floor for about the same price. We’re very happy we experienced Hale Kona Kai, though, because we would absolutely stay in this complex again!

We stayed here for 8 days in March, 2015. The condo is located on the second floor in the angle of the L-shaped building complex overlooking the pool. The views of the ocean were not as nice as expected, but ok. The condo sleeps 2-4 people, but 4 would be cramped. It is best for 2 people. It is smaller than the pictures make it appear. The condo and the complex are a little dated but clean. The bathroom was small. Appliances were cheaper brands but all worked. AC was adequate. Wifi and cable TV were good. There is a garbage room and washer/dryer room (coin operated) around the corner from this condominium. Location is good next to the Royal Kona Hotel and Don the Beachcomber restaurant and bar. Many other restaurants and bars are within easy walking distance. Each condo has its own parking space and the elevator to the upper floors worked well. The management company leaves minimal supplies so consider bringing your own pods for dishwasher and washing machine. You may have to buy additional garbage bags and toilet paper. Electrical outlet plugs were not convenient and there were several light switches which did not seem to do anything. Overall, we were satisfied and would return in the future.

This condo was our first experience on the Big Island and we wanted to stay near Kona. Hale Kona Kai 207 was exactly what it was advertised to be for two people. The condo was well equipped and charming without being overdone. We appreciated being close to the pool and the stairs as well as the covered parking. The view is just great ...loved every part of the day as it was shaded and sheltered with a spectacular sunset view. If we travel with just the two of again, we will stay in 207 again. Easy interesting walk into Kona..lots to see and great little restaurants. Only downside for this corner condo is the bedroom is possibly not private as the deck next door could see in if curtains were open and there is no washere and dryer in the condo but is conveniently right around the corner in the hall.

Clean and bright one bedroom condo. This was perfect for 2 people, within walking distance of downtown Kona. We love this condo complex!
The only negative worth mentioning is the one roll of toilet paper that is provided. It seems silly that this is not included in the rental. We left 3 rolls for the next renters.
